Day 1

I came across a 30-Day Song Challenge Facebook Community today. Interesting, yes? I decided to make this blog a little more colorful and interesting by posting my songs here. The countdown starts today, with my favorite song.

Day One: Your Favorite Song

This is not a very popular song but I fell in love with it the first time I heard it (by accident, actually, while I was lurking on someone else's blog). I love this song mainly because of the lyrics, and of course the way it is sang. It is so heartfelt. Magical. Awesome. *Insert whatever nice adjective here*. I love that it doesn't follow the typical verse-chorus-verse pattern (it somehow does, but not very obvious).

I would love to hear this song on my wedding day *hopeless romantic alert!*

If I should write a poem built with thoughts of you...

Never thought I'd miss UP as early as now.

Naiinis.
Meron akong nami-miss.
Isang taon ko nang ‘di nakikita,
Kung di ako kikilos, may pag-asa pa kaya?

Lumuluha.
Pag kinakausap ko sya.
Masakit makwentuhan na iba ang gusto nya.
Pero kinakaya (ako pa).
Mabuti nang masaktan na lang,
Kaysa pagkakaibigan ay masayang.

Kasinungalingan.
Yan ang problema.
Wala naman talagang iba,
Sya lang naman mula sa simula.
Nato-torpe lang, kaya sa ganyan idinaan.

Naguguluhan.
Sa pag-ibig na nararamdaman.
Mahal ko sya. Sobra.
Isang taon na.
Pero di ko alam kung may patutunguhan pa.

Nalilito.

This is the start of history we're making. And I hope this is gonna be a nice one.

For the First Time...

"These times are hard and they're making us crazy, don't give up on me baby..."

I Miss...

Crazy moments after grueling final exams
Graded interviews with famous crushes
Crazy photoshoots before a presentation
Thinking you'll fail and getting a 3.0 instead (yeah!)
Random doodling on research notes
Having lunch at the foot of a naked statue
Managing to laugh in spite of stress and whatnot
Chikasesh with crazy classmates (Hi, Eya)
Personal takes on vanity
Cheering for batchmates until our throats expire
The RH lobby and random photo moments
Making a joke out of something serious, though we are all unsure whether we'll make it out alive the next day
Brainstorming and sharing knowledge with the brightest bunch you'll ever know
And even camwhoring even during serious meetings...
...And so much more. I miss college. I miss studying. I miss my wonderfully insane OrCom Family.

The Day I Found Love

My poetry is already rusty.

It has been a looooooong time since I did a poem with rhymes. Writing poems in Filipino seems a little too serious and matalinghaga for me, while I find it hard to do rhyming in English. With that, I’ve been stuck with free-verse poems, essays, and love letters since time immemorial.

Alright, so much for the introduction. Hehehe.

The Kristiyanong Kabataan para sa Bayan--Malolos annually holds the Festival of Talents. It is a showcase of God-given dancing, singing, and instrument-playing skills (only with varying mechanics every year). There’s also the much-awaited Mr and Ms KKB, our version of a beauty pageant, but with more modesty and less flesh.

However, this year's FOT (as we fondly call it) gave us a twist—there is also a songwriting competition. And I am telling you this: not because I call myself a writer doesn’t automatically make me a songwriter. I can’t even play the guitar or tell which key a certain song is in (like my friends do with their awesome ears!) But hey, they have faith in me so we took a shot at it.

Our entry is actually the second one I’ve written. I imagine the first one I wrote in an upbeat tune, and the imaginary music stuck in my head actually interferes with what I am writing, like I am trying to make it fit. Since God blessed me in ways other than music, I don’t have much right to actually set the music for it. Because of that, I have written another one while eating salad and some frosty at Wendy’s (yes, I am at my most productive like that).

What happens at Wendy's

The song tells of how blessed I am as a part of my KKB family for the past six years. For so long I have wanted a solid group of friends that I know wouldn’t leave me. And I found them when I committed myself into this ministry. They are the ones that would understand you, advise you, and help you no matter what. And what better way to experience God’s love than in the church, with the people He had chosen to support you?

With that, I have written this short song that started out as my gratitude poem.

Found Love
Words: Karen Christine Moroño
Music: Ana Ruth Fajardo, Erick Espiritu
Performed by Erick Espiritu

I have been searching for something
That will fill this empty heart
Some have tried, and they have failed
To share the feeling of God’s love
It was all like so
‘Til he has brought me here

‘Coz it’s here that I found love
Tender support I never thought of
Found more than just friendship
This is more than my ministry
This is home
This is family

Now I know that I am happy
‘Coz I know about his love
And that He has brought me here
For me to testify

The song is just a short one; it barely lasted for three minutes. But hey, Only You and Grow Old with You are also short songs, but they tell a lot. Hehehe. Erick performed this at the FOT, clad in Bruno Mars attire, with the smooth style of Jason Mraz, but the guitar-plucking is all Erick Espiritu. Haha! The song started as something solemn, and then he converted it into bossa. I assure you, the song is so catchy it will be stuck on your head FOR DAYS (at least that's what happened to me).

And by the grace of God, “Found Love” is the first KKB Malolos Song of the Year Awardee. To God be the Glory!

PS. Lesson Learned: Never underestimate your songwriting skills, especially when God is the one who asked you to do it!

364 days

What seemed to be an accident turned out to be something I can't recover from.

And no matter what, this will always be my favorite accident.

I reward myself with concerts, yes.

Hi, I am more than pleased to tell you that I am officially going to the Maroon 5 (gasp!) concert on the 23rd oh yessss! I already purchased a bronze (boo me) ticket that isn't as cheaply priced as a UP fair concert ticket but nevertheless cheaper as compared to others. I am going solo (another boo me) but Adam Levine will also be there, so it's fair enough. No, seriously, I'd enjoy some company...

Anyway, here's another thing to watch out for:

INCU--effin'--BUS LIVE IN MANILAAAAAAAAAH!!! (cue: I... wish you were here...)

Maroon 5 and Incubus on the same year. How cool is that.

Must get a job soon. Baka dumating din ang Westlife.

Don't follow dreams.

Chase them!

Recently I am going through another wild rollercoaster ride of emotions. I'm not bipolar. No I'm not. It's just that things have been confusing lately that I don't know what I should believe in. Haha. Then my friend Kits sent me this link of optimistic illustrations with a dedication that says "For you! ♥"

Aww, I love my friends to bits. :)

Kits was the one to introduce me to My Modern Met, a site of artsy photos and all things nice. The link she sent me was especially lovely, so I shared it with you. One of my favorite photos there is this:

It's so bright and colorful! This reminded me that I am living in a world filled with love and happiness and I should shake of all those negative vibes. Again I remind myself to live a modular life.

Well, Maybe things just got out of hand. And we got ourselves confused with the words that both of us say. Or do. Maybe. They'll fix themselves no matter what. And hey, to still have you a year hence is already something to celebrate. :)

The Joy of Waiting

Tick, tack. Tick, tack.

Hearing the sound of a ticking clock makes us aware that time would never be held back nor pushed forward. Time is the main element of waiting, and I know, we all hate it.

But come to think of it, why do we have to wait?

I remember a story from Joshua Harris’ “I kissed dating goodbye”. A boy was given a life thread and it was a shiny gold ball. He also hates waiting and every time he gets bored, he’ll just pull some of the thread and the waiting will be over. He kept on pulling and pulling until there’s no thread left. With only the grave to look forward to, he regretted the times he pulled the golden string, and he missed out much on life because of his impatience.

We wait because we look forward for something good to happen to us. Most of the time impatience gets in the way and it causes us to make wrong decisions that may result in dire consequences, like the boy who was given the life thread. He failed to see the joy and beauty of life because all that he wanted are the good things.

Waiting gives us the thrill of enjoying life while we look forward to the good things. “Hustle while you wait”, as the elders say. Because waiting is just a test; it tests your maturity, loyalty, and strength. Waiting is also a process wherein we are allowed to make up our minds.

Life is a series of waiting. Sometimes time passes by so quickly and you don’t even notice it. Waiting is easy and somehow tiring. But never give up on those trying times, your guts and loyalty are just being tested.
